Sentinel Code

Behind The Art of Mark IV – Pt 2

In Part 1 we chatted to Ariel about where she got her inspiration for the characters for Colourless, today we're continuing to look at her process. And take a peak at some concepts for another Mark IV project: Sentinel Code, book one of The Alchemists' Bane. Enjoy!

[Dan] I recall that when you started drawing, way back when, most of what you did was copying cartoon characters, etc. It was a while before you started getting adventurous and creating your own art.

[Ariel] Yeah, it did take me a bit. I have a huge imagination, but actually using it is hard. Though I found the cartooning and illustration course I did really helped. Because it kind of taught you how to actually put your ideas down onto paper. Just doing all the exercises and things was really good practice.

3D Assets And Finished Drafts

We have two big announcements to make.

First: Mark IV now makes and sells 3D assets! Ancel Haegler and Simon Davis have been hard at work building collections of assets. Ancel finished the first pack, a set of assorted glasses, and uploaded to TurboSquid for sale. Mark IV's 3D models can be found here.  As of this post, only one asset pack is up, but many more are on their way.

As the library grows, a catalogue will be added to our website to make it nice and easy for you to browse. For now, though, please visit us on TurboSquid

October Happenings

I thought it was still September, but apparently it’s November. At least, that’s what my calendar is insisting. Oh well, despite the missing month, a lot has been happening around here.

As I announced in a recent blog post, (I say recent, even though I just checked the post date and it was written in September. The case for October actually existing isn’t going well…) we’ve been incredibly fortunate to have some hard working interns join our forces here at Mark IV. Since that post, we’ve also been joined by another intern, Kate Lulham. It’s been really exciting to see some of the work they’ve all been producing. Watching Colourless coming to life has been surreal.

Interns and the Future!

Well, it’s been over a month since we poked our heads outside and squinted in the bright light of the internet. But rest assured, a ton of exciting stuff has been happening.

First up, Mark IV has officially signed on six interns through SAE, Brisbane! We’re incredibly excited to welcome Simon Davis, James Day, Heaven Scutt, Duncan Hayes, Isaac Gordon, and Catherine Glynn to Mark IV.

The remainder of 2016 is fully booked for us. The team will divide and conquer in order to create the production logo, begin work on Colourless, and finish Sentinel Code—book one of The Alchemists’ Bane series.
